MIDAS Launch Event
Launch attended by members of UK and International Zr Community
On Thursday 12th September the official MIDAS launch event took place in Manchester, with a full day of talks, panels, and facilities tours.
The day’s programme included details of MIDAS’s Key Challenges and objective, a summary of kick-off activities so far, and an outline of future plans Attendees were able to provide input on the programme, as well as to discuss routes to engaging in MIDAS, which we hope to develop into a wide-ranging, UK and international consortium on the holistic study of irradiation damage in fuel assembly materials.
As well as talks by the MIDAS team, there were invited talks from Suresh Yagnik (EPRI), outlining the background of the BOR-60 samples to be studied in MIDAS, Steven van Boxel (UKAEA) and Jon Hyde (NNL) on active facilities in the UK, and Sandy Knowles (University of Birmingham) on Zr high-entropy alloys.
As MIDAS is the product of a number of successful collaborative research initiatives over the last 10-15 years , the day also featured a poster exhibition charting the growth of post-millennium Zirconium research in the UK, in recognition of this.
The launch was attended by a large number of delegates from the UK and internationally, and participants unable to attend in person were able to live-stream the talks, recordings of which are available on request. If you wish to receive a link to these, please email MIDAS@manchester.ac.uk
We will hold a variety of meetings, technical workshops and small conferences throughout MIDAS. If you wish to be added to our mailing list to receive updates about these, please get in touch.
