KIERAN LYNCH

  • Postdoctoral Research Associate

  • Project Title: Predicting Irradiation Induced Evolution of Precipitates in Zr Alloys by Simulation and Advanced Microscopy

  • Working on Key Challenge 1.

Kieran Lynch completed his PhD at The University of Manchester as a member of the MIDAS programme, where his research focused on the characterisation and simulation of second phase particles (SPPs) in Zircaloy-2 and -4 under neutron and ion irradiation.

Kieran hopes to utilise his knowledge of SPP evolution, both with and without the effects of irradiation, to understand how these precipitates evolve across a range of Zr alloys under neutron and proton irradiation. The BOR-60 samples will be analysed using (S)TEM-EDX, focusing on Nb-containing alloys and potentially Zr-Cu and Zr-V alloys, facilitating the development of SPP models, such as the Kampmann-Wagner Numerical (KWN) model.

Following the completion of my PhD, I took some time off to travel, and I’m now excited rejoin the MIDAS team and contribute to excellent research, ultimately helping in the efforts toward a net-zero future.
